URL redirect checker
The URL redirect checker shows every response a server gives for an address, in order: where it redirects, with which status code (301, 302, 307, 308), and whether the chain ends in a working page (200) or a missing one (404). It follows up to 10 steps. Use it to find the real target of a short link, to verify 301 redirects after a site move, and to check http → https and www → non-www rules.
How to check a redirect
- Paste the full address (with https://) into the box.
- Press Submit; the requests are sent from our server, the page does not open in your browser.
- Each table row is one hop: a 200 on the last row means the page loads.
What the status codes mean
- 200: The page was found; the chain should end here.
- 301 / 308: Permanent redirect. Search engines pass the old URL’s value to the new one; used for site moves.
- 302 / 307: Temporary redirect. If the move is permanent it should be a 301.
- 404 / 410: The page does not exist; the redirect target is broken.
- 5xx: Server error; the target site may be down.

What is the difference between a 301 and a 302 redirect?
A 301 is permanent, a 302 temporary. Use a 301 when an address has moved for good; search engines pass ranking signals through a 301.
Why are redirect chains bad?
Every extra hop slows the page down and makes crawling harder. An old URL should go straight to the final URL with a single 301.
How do I find where a short link goes?
